Concert: Mata - Cracow, Strefa57
Mata is the artistic pseudonym of Michał Matczak, an artist ranked among the most popular artists of the young generation in Poland. The young rapper and lyricist, only 24 years old, can boast many achievements. He graduated from Warsaw's prestigious Stefan Batory Secondary School and passed the International Baccalaureate. He is fluent in three foreign languages, and his ease with the Polish language and natural flow set him apart in rap circles. These linguistic and musical strengths have already made themselves known in his first projects. In 2018, the concept album 'Fumar Mata' appeared, which was released as a mini-album in 2019.
Mata - work and achievements
When 'Patointeligencja', in which the young Matczak describes the behaviour of young people from good homes, appeared on Youtube, there was quite a media buzz around Mata. The song won the Popkillers 2020 award as single of the year, and the singer himself was hailed as the discovery of the year. His first studio album, 100 Days to Matura (2020), was well received by audiences and critics alike.
Mata won two awards at the 2021 Fryderyki Gala in the categories hip-hop album of the year and phonographic debut of the year. He was awarded at Popkillers 2021 for release of the year, album of the year and as rapper of the year. In 2022, he also received the audience award for his concert at Bemowo Airport, as well as for his album Młody Matczak, which reached double platinum status just weeks after its release. It was the most popular album in Poland according to Spotify statistics, and also the most frequently purchased album. He also won the Empik Bestseller poll in the rap & hip-hop music category, at which time he also received the audience award.
In addition to the aforementioned releases, the young artist also has the album '<33 ' (2023), which reached number one on the OLiS list, as well as the mini-albums '100 days after graduation' (2021) and '2038: Warsaw' (2023). If you want to hear his work live, come to Mata's concert in Krakow at Strefa 57.
Mata - sincerity that wins over the public
While Mata's lyrics refer to his own experiences, he also draws on the reality around him, often sparking controversy from the public. His tracks such as 'Patoreaction', 'Kiss cam (pick-up of the year)', 'I AM POJ384NY', 'Rag', 'Crystal ball' and 'Sapphire', among others, confirm his charisma, unconventional style and lyrical skills, reaching high places on the charts. His songs often reflect on contemporary society, education or interpersonal relations.
Mata's reach extends beyond the Polish music scene. In September 2024, the artist released the song 'Lloret de Mar', which was the first Polish track to make it onto the soundtrack of the EA FC 25 (formerly FIFA) game. Matczak admits that he has international aspirations.
